About the founders

Greg Tseng and Johann Schleier-Smith, co-founders of Tagged, have been friends since the 7th grade. While running the Stanford track in 2003, Greg had the idea to ‘Search for America’s coolest teen’. Greg and Johann left their Stanford PhD studies and officially launched Tagged as a social networking site for US teens in October 2004.

Technology

Tagged exists to serve members so the architectural vision starts with the user interface. Client-side JavaScript programming ensures a smooth and progressive experience. PHP is used for rapid development of feature functionality, and as the “glue” to assemble back-end services and data into a working product. Tagged runs on roughly 1,000 servers and leverage Akamai to achieve speed and reliability. Tagged is actively moving toward introducing non-relational database technology.
